This Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle was manufactured in 1890. The rifle has a blued barrel, magazine, bolt and loading gate. The forearm cap, receiver, hammer, lever and crescent steel buttplate have a color case-hardened finish. The stock and forearm are straight grain black walnut. The rifle has a full octagon barrel and full length magazine. The barrel has a dove-tail mounted front sight with a nickel-silver blade and set screw on the right side of the base. The sporting style rear sight has a plain elevator and sliding rear sight insert. The edges of the sight are serrated. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "-MANUFACTURED BY THE- / -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation: "38-56 W.C.F." is stamped on the top of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped with the model designation: "-MODEl 1886-". "PAT.OCT.14.1884/JAN. 20.1885" is stamped in two lines on the lower receiver tang behind the trigger. The serial number, "56718" is located behind the rear tang screw.

Condition: Fine. The rifle retains half of the faded original blue and traces of the casehardened finish. The blue finish on the barrel, magazine and loading gate has faded to a plum-colored patina. The barrel and magazine have light edge wear and several minor scratches. The bolt retains 98% of the deep blue finish. The casehardened finish on the forearm cap, receiver, hammer, lever and buttplate has faded. The case colors on the sides of the receiver, hammer and loading lever remain visible. The case colors on the top and bottom of the receiver, forearm cap and buttplate have faded to a silver patina. The barrel and receiver markings are crisp. The bore is bright. The stock and forearm are both in very good condition with moderate handling wear. Both the stock and forearm have scattered handling marks. This is a solid, original, example of a Winchester Model 1886 Rifle with the desirable case-hardened receiver.
