Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle
Manufactured in 1878, this rifle is a Second Model with the dust cover rail secured to the top of the receiver with two screws, and it has the earlier dust cover with the stamped oval finger guide on top of the dust cover. The top barrel flat is marked " WINCHESTER'S - REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN, CT. / KING'S IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29, 1866, OCTOBER 16, 1860" ahead of the rear sight and there is no caliber marking. The barrel gauges at 45, writer believes it to be 45-60 W.C.F. caliber. The upper tang is marked with the early "MODEL. 1876." without the foliate at each end and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. German silver blade front sight and adjustable folding rear sight graduated to 1,000 yards. Mounted with smooth forearm and straight grip stock with an iron forend cap and crescent buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included).

Condition: Very good. The barrel retains 60% original blue finish with areas thinning to a smooth brown and high edge wear. The magazine shows 30% original blue finish mainly in the protected areas with the balance having a smooth mottled brown and gray patina. The casehardened receiver, hammer and lever have a smooth silver gray patina with scattered discoloration and a small area of moderate spotting on the left side of the lever. The wood is fine with overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The locked up action needs work, the lever does not function. The markings are clear.
