Early lever action repeating rifle chambered in .40-65 Winchester, 1896. Features a blued 26" octagonal barrel, full length tube magazine, blade front sight with ivory bead, folding leaf rear sight, period tang sight, case hardened receiver, smooth trigger, checkered hammer spur, metal forend cap, smooth walnut forend and straight grip shoulder stock with crescent buttplate. Includes a Winchester letter from the Cody Museum with little information. Finish retains 20% original deep bluing on barrel & magazine tube where they meet and a lovely brown patina elsewhere. Receiver & lever boast a small amount of bright colors while the majority of their surfaces are a mixture of reflective silver & dark grey patina. The receiver also exhibits scattered light pin prick pitting on the right side and light scattered surface rust forming on the left side. Also the lower tang appears to have a slight curve causing it to 'push-out' from the center. Markings are mostly crisp and wood stocks are near fine. Action is smooth and bore is good to very good. Condition is Fine. ***Antique Firearm***
