William W. Wilson Engraving and Printing Advertising Vignette Sheet.Boston, Massachusetts, ND (ca.1830-40's), 16.5 by 10.25 inch advertising sheet with numerous vignettes, text, Title of company on top, information about the company, portraits of notable people, allegorical men and women, steamboats and sailing ships, trains, battle scenes animals and numeral counters, cycloid engravings, medallions and end panels all designed, engraved and printed from this early banknote engraver. Printed in black on light blue paper, Top of sheet has allegorical cherubs in middle with ornate end panels and numerals with the name of the company William W. Wilson - Engraving and Printing - Bank Notes, Safety Checks, Bills of Exchange, Notes, Etc. - 17 Doane Street, Boston. Amazing advertising sample vignette sheet that has not seen the light of day for over 150 years. Folded for storage and could easily be flattened. The only fault is a 1 inch tear on the top right margin between the 500 and 3 medallion that is barely noticeable and could be easily repaired, but you can always wait another 150 years until you get a better one if desired. Spectacular and amazing sample sheet and the first time seen by the cataloger. Wilson was arrested in 1853 in Boston for counterfeiting a Merchants Bank of Boston and Tradesmans' Bank, Chelsea, banknotes and was testified against by Pelton, a banknote engraver and firm owner as well as Alderman Isaac Cary of the New England BNC. He was held for $17,000 bail, was in default of bail and commited to jail. First time seen by cataloger. (Silver City Collection, Part 1)
