Cabinet card by Palais Studio, Butte, Montana, is a dynamic image of the two firemen connecting the hoses. Pencil inscription on verso identifies the men as Clyde C. Coulter on the right, John Sloan at left. A terrible Butte disaster in 1895 was an explosion in which many members of the fire company (as well as many others) were killed. Coulter seems to have survived, as there is receipt from 1896 for his 50 cent dues to the Department. [3+]
