Lot of 9. This is a nice group! 1) Gold Hill: a) letterhead from the Gold Hill Assay Office, WS James, 1893, to Hofer at the Bullion & Exchange Bank. Signed by James. b) 1898 typed letter of recommendation for a miner. Addressed to supt. Gil Ross of the Pumping Association, the letter recommends Daniel O'Higgins, a "competent shaftman." Signed by H. Gorham. Gorham was at once supt. of the Savage Mine and other properties in Gold Hill. He wrote a book about his experiences on the Comstock, titled "My Memories of the Comstock." 2) Virginia City: a) Gould & Curry Silver Mining Co. check signed by CC Batterman, 1870 with rare printed green Nevada revenue stamp and RN-B federal imprint. b) Three receipts from the supt. office of the Gould & Curry for assaying completed for the Savage Mining Company, 1866-67. Ore came from three different mills: Devil's Gate, Buckeye, and the Savage. c) Two Savage Mining Co. paychecks, 1875, F.F. Osbiston Superintendent. 3) Last, but certainly not least: Great 1882 letter on Sutro Tunnel Company letterhead (from the SF office) to Henry Yerington, supt. of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. Letter details conversation between the supt. of the Sutro and Yerington regarding rates for transporting train freight from Dayton to Sutro. Signed by the company secretary.
