This is a one of two hundred produced Union Pacific Railroad reverse painting mirror. Excellent and tastefully painted mirror by artist "Baker" and is so-marked. There were two hundred of these sold in 1902 for the Union Pacific executives and vendors. They were produced by "Louis Comfort Tiffany Glass-Works New York" and so marked. A rare piece of railroad memorabilia in limited edition of the reverse glass procedures. It is a mirror measuring 13 in. X 14 in. and is 16 IN. x 17 IN. outside the frame. The artist has signed it in the lower right and corner and in the left hand corner it is marked "Louis Comfort glass-works New York". A rare piece of American railroad history. HWAC# 55331

Here's my (company owner) take:
At least one similar reverse glass piece (exactly the same, only this one has clearer photos of the signature area) was sold as an original, c1890-1900 item, as found on the web. But I don't believe it. Those of us who have handled Tiffany works note the exceptional quality in nearly everything they make. This piece does not have the quality I would expect. Hence our low estimate. If we could prove it was a legitimate Tiffany reverse glass piece, I'd have it estimated at at least 5,000-10,000. We just don't know for sure. We do get fantastic original pieces in nearly every sale, but i've never seen this one in 40 yrs of deals and auctions. But we also get knock-offs that are more fantasy than fake right along side a $10k original. (especially Wells Fargo)
