U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle, with Model 1873 breechblock, #315039, .45 -70 cal., 32-5/8'' round barrel, walnut stock, two barrel bands, grooved and corregated trigger, fixed blade front sight, Buffington rear sight, with front sling swivel; lock is marked with ''(eagle)/U.S. / Springfield''; breech is marked ''U.S. / 1873''; left side of barrel is marked ''VP/(eagle's head)/P''. Early production Model 1884 rifles sometimes contain leftover Model 1873 breechblocks. Condition of metal surfaces is very good retaining approx. 45% toning and darkening blue. Markings remain clear. Stock is in fair condition showing considerable age and wear; buttplate shows heavy corrosion. Missing ramrod, and rear sling swivel is broken. Action is crisp, bore is good. Est.: $300-$500.
