The U.S. Model 1795 Springfield Musket was manufactured 1810. The lock plate is marked with the script "US" over a downward arched "SPRINGFIELD" in front of the hammer and "1810" behind the hammer. This predates the War of 1812 and could have seen use in the aforementioned conflict. The script "US" is marked on the left stock flat at an upward angle. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the "P / eagle head / V" and "U S". The heel of the buttplate is marked "1810" and the butt is marked "39". The trigger guard is the Type III with the rounded finials, flat faced hammer with beveled edge with a straight spur, frizzen with a straight toe and the frizzen spring has a spear point tip. It has an integral forged iron rounded flash pan. Bayonet lug mounted 1 1/2" from the muzzle on top of the barrel. The full straight grip stock has three barrel bands and the long flutes approximately half the length of the comb and steel buttplate. Iron ramrod with a button end.
BBL: 44 1/2 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 69
Finish: bright
Grips:
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Good as reconverted to Flintlock configuration. The barrel, buttplate and trigger guard have a smooth silver gray and brown mottled patina with moderate flash pitting on the breech end of the barrel. The remaining metal surfaces have mix of brownish gray and dark patina. The stock is very fine with some scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The "US" marking on the barrel is a bit difficult to read due to the flash pitting, otherwise the markings are readable. The sling swivel mounted ahead of the trigger guard is absent. The action is very good.
