Manufactured from 1836 to 1844 by Robert Johnson of Middletown, Connecticut, with this example produced in 1842. Brass blade front and groove rear sights, with "US./JH/P" on top of the breech. The lock plate is marked "U.S./R. JOHNSON.MIDDN CONN/1842". It has a smooth stock with a single barrel band/side plate, swivel ramrod, one piece back strap/grip cap, and a pair of clear cartouches on the left flat. The underside of the barrel has been stamped with the number "4286" and the right side of the grip has a tack marked with the number "20". The Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol was the standard issue handgun of the Mexican War.

Condition: Fine. The lock plate has faded to a gray with the remaining metal surfaces having a bright appearance. The stock is very fine with a couple hairline cracks and a few minor handling marks. The cartouches are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
