This two-piece plate was adopted in approx. 1836 for all enlisted personnel who were armed with a sword and continued as regulation until 1851 when replaced by the 1851 pattern sword plate belt. In 1847, it was also prescribed for the Sapers & Miners (Engineers) to carry with heavy sword bayonet particular to them. It was mfg'd by both private contractors and at arsenals. This is also the same type plate used with white buff leather belt for the 1833 pattern foot Artillery sword. Condition is excellent with light to moderate patination, but overall complete and original. From the Col. Evan Murdock collection. Est.: $250-$500.
