The lot features an excellent circa 1870 Southern Plains Native American Indian adorned U.S. Indian Service sword and scabbard. The rare authentic example features the proper markigns and beautiful unique engraving. The scabbard is adorned with silver conchos, a silver star, early glass trade seed beads, and two authentic U.S. Indian Service Buttons. The piece was collected from the Comanche Indian tribe in Texas. Ther is a wrap of old striped trade clothe on the gilt and the handle is covered in parfleche hide with a sinew sewn construction. The is truly a very rare and unique presentation weapon from the Indian Wars period that belonged to a Comanche scout working for the U.S. Indian Service. The blade is marked USIS in the correct early script in the correct engraving section of the U.S. Presentation sword. The sword appears to measures 26 inches in length with the rawhide scabbard being 19.75 inches in length.
