U.S. Clauberg Model 1850 Staff & Field Officer's Sword with Sheath
Produced in Solingen, Germany and sold by James P. Fitch of New York City. Blade is 32 3/4" long, with dual quillions, etched patriotic and scroll designs on either side, "IRON PROOF" on the backstrap, Fitch merchant mark on the right ricasso and W. Clauberg address and trademark on the left. Gilt finished brass sheath, with cut-through scroll and "US" designs on the guard, oak leaf engraving on the helmet pommel and traces of ray skin on the wood grip. Iron sheath with brass fittings.

Condition: Fine, with spotting on the blade, fading of the etching and a few dings and scratches. Approximately 35% of the original gilt finish remains on the hilt, with a mixed aged patina on the remainder and some chipping of the exposed wood. Sheath is fair, with pitting and dings.
