Turkish Peabody-Martini single shot rifle, .45 caliber, Serial #NSNV. The rifle is in good overall condition with a 32” barrel with a ramped blade front and military tangent style rear sights. The barrel retains asignificant amount of its blue finish with the ramrod missing. The receiver retains the majority of its flaking nickel finish. The Receiver is marked Peabody Patent, Providence Tool Co., Providence, R.I. Manufactured for the Turks and used during the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878, over 600,000 of the rifles were built by the Providence Tool Co., which held the Peabody patent. The rifle has Turkish proofs forward the front ring. Thesmooth wood stock is in good condition with mars and compressions. The stock features several cartouches and ends with a smooth, steel butt plate. The bore is fair, the action crisp and markings are legible. TheTurkish rifle was chambered in its own unique cartridge, the 11.3 x 59R or “.45 Turkish”. From the estate of Larry Gaertner. Est.: $350-$700. (Antique)
