Top Cat & Friends Signed Orig Model Cel Animation Art
This is an original production animation model cel from the television series "Top Cat". * This cel portrays a line up of all the show's crazy alley cat characters. * Bob Singer's signature appears in black Sharpie at the bottom of the cel. * Bob Singer is an American animation artist, character designer, layout and background artist and storyboard director of animated television programs, most memorably of several Hanna Barbara productions such as The Flintstones, Jonny Quest, Scooby-Doo, Yogi Bear, Droopy, Tom and Jerry, The Jetsons, The Smurfs, Superfriends, and the Harlem Globe Trotters cartoons. * Top Cat, called T.C. by close friends, is the leader of a gang of New York City alley cats: Fancy-Fancy, Spook, Benny the Ball, The Brain, and Choo Choo. A frequent plot-line revolved around the local policeman, Officer Charles "Charlie" Dibble, and his ineffective attempts to evict the gang from the alley. The only reason that he wanted to be rid of them was that Top Cat and his gang were constantly attempting to earn a quick dollar-usually through an illegal scam. Dibble's appearance was modeled on Allen Jenkins, who did his voice. Dibble, previously only an implement for making holes for planting seeds, has acquired a second meaning in the vernacular as slang for police officers. * Original Animated Cel, hand-painted, with peg holes along the bottom edge Overall Size of the Cel: 10 1/2" x 12 1/2" Excellent Condition -ready to be matted and framed * This is an original cel used in the production of "Top Cat". Each one-of-a-kind set-up represents a slight change in position of the characters. When individually photographed and projected in rapid succession, the images appear to move. * To create production cels, the original animator's drawing is transferred onto an acetate cel (by hand-inking and/or photo copying). The cel is then hand-painted on the reverse side. * * *
