This lot offers you a large strand of 108 Tibetan Buddhist mal prayer beads, depicting skulls. Buddhism is represented by many symbols, including lotus flowers, Bodhi trees, Buddha's footprints, the Tire of the Regulation, and in this case - skulls. Skulls - like in many faith's - stood for death in Tibet. but Buddhists integrated Tibetan skull images into malas to represent the brevity of life, and the restrictions of human understanding. SKull-shaped mala beads help chanters show upon the inevitability of fatality and the requirements of accepting lives filled of empathy. The carved bone beads show good condition. The necklace measures 64 1/2" long, each bead varies in size, but the average equals 1/2" x 1/4".
