Offered for sale is a Superb, High Condition Special Order Winchester Model 1873 .32-20 28" Octagon Rifle. This rifle features a 28" octagon barrel, full length magazine, buckhorn sights, walnut stock, and blue'd finish. According to the standard reference THE WINCHESTER HANDBOOK, by George Madis, of the over 720,000 Model 1873s manufactured only 1201 had barrels longer than the standard length of twenty-four inches. Considering the 1873 Model was offered in round, octagon and half octagon configurations, the different lengths available on special order plus various caliber choices it is reasonable to conclude that there could be no more than a handful made in .32WCF caliber with 28” octagon barrel length. This Winchester 1873 was special ordered with a 28" full octagon barrel (barrel lengths over the standard 24" are few and far between). This Model 1873 is in truly beautiful condition, retaining excellent deep original receiver blue as well as excellent full barrel blue, all excellent sharp markings including the Model 1873 marking on the upper tang and the Winchester address etc. on the barrel, beautiful walnut stock and forend are also in a high state of preservation and show the tight wood to metal fit sought after by collectors. Even the screw heads show that most have never been turned. Original buckhorn rear sight with blade/bead front sight. The hammer still retains some deep case color and the receiver has the original dust cover intact that shows as fine deep blue as the rest of this special order extra long barrel rifle. Sharp, excellent bore, tight action, lever catch intact on the lower tang. Uncleaned and unpolished mellow brass lifter correctly marked “32 CAL.” This rifle was manufactured in 1886. Antique firearm. NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required. The serial number is 210842.
