This is a truly exceptional example of a Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle with casehardened receiver. According to information from the Cody Firearms Museum Records (copy included) this rifle arrived at the warehouse on October 2, 1899, and was shipped October 7 of the same year, as a "rifle", caliber ".45-70" with "octagon" barrel and "plain" trigger. German silver blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with the top barrel flat roll-stamped "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.-" and "45-70". "-MODEL 1886-" is roll-stamped on the upper receiver tang and the Browning and Mason patent marking, "-PAT.OCT.14.1884./JAN. 20. 1885-" is stamped on the lower receiver tang followed by the serial number "119683". The stock and forearm are select, straight grain, walnut with a varnish finish and a smooth steel buttplate with sliding brass door.

Condition: Excellent plus, with the barrel and magazine tube showing 98% of the original blue finish with very minor edge wear on the flats and muzzle. The bolt has nearly all of the original blue finish and the loading gate retains about 85% with some minor high-point wear. The casehardened components retain 95% plus original fiery case colors. The stock and forearm are both in excellent plus condition; nearly all of the original varnish finish is present and wear is limited to some scattered and very minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. This is an exceptional example of a Model 1886 Winchester rifle with spectacular casehardened receiver.
