Two pieces from specimen cut by saw, one is 1 x 1 x 2", the other 1 x 2 x 2". Specimens consists of light gray, waxy quartz vein with thin dark gray stringers of silver sulfide. Some tiny silver sulfide crystals. The Island Mountain district was discovered in 1869 and is about 60 miles north of Elko, Nevada. The St. Elmo mine consists of gold and silver-bearing quartz veins cutting the Prospect Mountain Quartzite. The mine was worked on a small scale from 1980 to 1981.
