Springfield model 1868 .50-70 caliber US military rifle, serial #10,000, in good original condition. Formerly in the famous Jonathan Peck collection. The rifle remains as-issued with all features as standard onthis model. Good condition with a light patina finish, some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The stock is good with some minor dings and mars, and a visible ESA cartouche. An original cleaning rod isretained. The action good, markings good, bore very good. These Springfields were the first cartridge arm used against the Indians on the frontier and were critical in the Wagon Box fight. A very interesting serialnumber. Est: $900 - $1,800
