Special Order Winchester Model 1886 Takedown Lever action Rifle with Cody Letter
Manufactured in 1904, this Model 1886 Takedown rifle is equipped with a raised Lyman blade front and adjustable semi-buckhorn Marble's rear sights. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address, 33 WCF" at the breech and two line special steel/smokeless powder marking on the left rear. Directly below the caliber marking is the Winchester oval proof and it is faintly visible on the top of the receiver at the breech. The upper tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-" and the serial number is on the lower tang. Full magazine tube, casehardened hammer and lever and mounted with a checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a steel end cap, hard rubber grip cap and steel shotgun buttplate. The accompanying Cody letter verifies the takedown configuration, caliber, round barrel, plain trigger, checkering with pistol grip stock, Lyman rear sight, full magazine, shotgun buttplate, that it was received in the warehouse on September 10, 1906 and shipped on order number 17507, November 14, 1906.

Condition: Fair. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina with a extensive amount of polished off minor pitting on the receiver and a few minor dings on the left side of the receiver. The lever has a smooth dark patina. The wood has been freshened with a coat of varnish and remains very good with some overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. A few screws show some minor marring. The markings, unless noted above, are clear. The action is fair.
