This is an early Smith & Wesson .44 Double Action First Model No. 3 Revolver with original 5 inch ribbed barrel and very low serial number of 14975 from circa 1880’s. The revolver is chambered in the .44 Russian (the standard .44 S&W caliber from the 1870’s to early 1900’s). This is essential a Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver with slight variations and was truly one of the most popular big Smith & Wesson’s on the Western Frontier. The revolver features a top-break single action design with six shot rotating cylinder having an ejector mechanism. This is an all matching serial numbers firearm that shows obvious holster use as the original factory nickel finish shows natural wear to the sides of the barrel, typical of holster carry. This firearm has never been altered or cleaned and shows exc. grip strap nickel with only the most minor of edge wear, cylinder too shows good nickel with flaking in the flutes and edges, fine blue on the trigger guard and sigh latch along with a fine action with tight lock up. The bore is bright and the grips appear to have a perfect fit and are not chipped or cracked but show wear, especially on the right side, again an indication of right handed holster carry with the left grip is protected against the body and the right side exposed and rubbed. This is truly an excellent example of an uncleaned Frontier Cowboy Indian Wars revolver from the 1880’s. Antique firearm requires NO FFL.
