The lot features a gunstock war club tomahawk with spontoon spike blade attributed to the Sioux Native American Indians of the Dakotas. The war club is said to be from the Reservation Period circa 19th-20th Century. The piece shows a wood haft or handle in the traditional gunstock style showing tepee triangular carved trim along the top and bottom with two median ridge carved runners on both the top and bottom. The entire war club shows a dark green paint with red outer paint and is covered in brass covered metal tacks, possibly a later addition. This also shows a Revolutionary War style spontoon spike blade showing two cut notches, a double edge, and a median ridge running along both sides. The blade shows hammered or worn spots and a dark coloring with a rust like patina. The piece was purchased from a notable local Montana collection by a private large Cowboy and Western collector in Billings, Montana. Supposedly looked over by a local Montana expert and found to be correct. Examine the photographs for a more detailed example of condition and age.
