The lot features a unique parfleche rawhide covered horse saddle with beadwork accents attributed to the Sioux Native American Indians. The saddle is thought to date to circa early-to-mid 1900's. The piece shows a traditional built Sioux pattern saddle showing a wooden saddle tree having a high horn and cantle with the entire piece being covered in Great American Bison Buffalo parfleche rawhide that is sinew sewn. The horn and cantle both show a rectangle drop of dark blue trade clothe that shows a tepee like pictorial glass trade seed beaded design in chalk white. The saddle also shows the original seat cover with two hide wrapped stirrups. Provenance: From a large Great Falls, Montana Native American Indian artifacts and weapons collection. Measures overall 23"L x 16" (from the bottom of the saddle tree to the top of the horn) the stirrups sit 32"H (from the top of the seat to the bottom of the stirrups). The saddle has a 13" seat. The tree is very narrow.
