Scarce signature of Lawrence Murphy, instigator of the Lincoln County War. This is on a bond for Thomas Wages, March 3rd, 1872. Also signed by the sheriff of Fort Stanton, New Mexico and others. Charges against Mr. Wages were assault with intent to kill. Top 1/4 of the paper (header) is missing, the indictment and signature are not affected. James J. Dolan worked as a clerk for Murphy. 9 3/4" x 8" tears at the folds. Ink is strong and clear.
