Sharps Model 1874 Sporting Rifle
This is an excellent example of a professionally restored Sharps Model 1874 Sporting Rifle. The top barrel flat is marked "Old Reliable" in a box and "SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT. CONN." ahead of the rear sight and "CAL. 45" at the breech and "2 7/8" on the right flat near the breech. The left side of the receiver is marked "SHARPS RIFLE CO / PAT APR 6 1869", the lock is unmarked and the serial number is marked on the top strap. Brass blade front and ladder style rear sight, single trigger, blue barrel and casehardened remaining parts, and mounted with s smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a silver forend .
BBL: 30 inch octagon
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 45-2-7/8
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips:
Serial Number: 159749
Condition: Professionally restored to near mint condition. There is a small amount of barely noticable pitting under the case colors on the lock. (This is a positive observation in that the restorer preserved the original markings on the receiver and left it in full dimension). The wood is also refinished with the forearm being a professionally made replacement. The hammer retreats fine, but does not hold a cock position. An overall beautiful restoration.
