Scarce U.S. Model 1808 Navy Flintlock Pistol
Manufactured by Simeon North of Berlin, Connecticut, circa 1808 to 1810 with a total of 3,000 produced. Significant as a War of 1812 era handgun, the Model 1808 Navy has a secure position in American military manufacturing history due to the pioneer methods of production used in the series by Simeon North. This example is correctly manufactured without sights, has brass mountings, a full pin fastened walnut stock, brass flash pan with fence, iron belt hook attached to left side of the stock and an iron backstrap that extends from tang to the brass buttcap. The lock plate is marked with the spread eagle motif above "U. STATES" ahead of the hammer. Note that the lock does not have the S. North vertically marked address behind the hammer. The barrel is correctly without proofs. Complete with a wooden ramrod with swelled tip.
BBL: 10 1/8 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 64
Finish: brown
Grips:
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Fine. The pistol retains some streaks of brown finish with the balance a smooth brown patina with some scattered minor spotting. The brass has a mixed aged patina. The action has a smooth gray patina mixed with a protective coating. The refinished stock is cracked in the grip area and has a wood filled repair near the muzzle, otherwise the stock is good with some minor handling marks. A coat of protective varnish has been applied over the entire surface of the pistol many years ago and has now yellowed with age. Appears to be original flintlock configuration.
