SIDNEY ADVERTISING CLOCK
SIDNEY ADVERTISING CLOCK. Spectacular wall hanging advertising clock manufactured by the Sidney Clock Co., Owego, New York, circa 1885. In addition to the time clock it also features a separate movement for rotating the bottom drums every five minutes, accompanied by a ringing bell. This allowed the clock to display up to 13 separate advertisements. This particular clock came directly out of the Chapman Hotel in Blenheim, NY where it hung prominently in their lobby from the 1880s until 2003. It features ROG advertisements on the front door for the Middlebury Gazette and the News Printing Office, executed with gold, glitter, and mother of pearl highlights as is much of the lettering. The paper clock face advertises A.W. Stevenson, watchmaker and the ROG top marquee advertises Sullivan & Haynes General Hardware Store. Accompanying this lot is a framed and matted collage of photos and clippings pertaining to the hotel, the clock and their history. SIZE: 28" w x 69" h x 11" d. CONDITION: The wood case retains its original untouched varnish finish with a wonderful patina. The bottom paper drums are replacements as is typical with these clocks. The ROG lettering is overall in very good to excellent condition. The paper clock face is lightly age toned and the paint has acquired an alligator texture. Some loss of black color to the lower numbers. Appears to have had two small finials at top corners, which are now missing 1-5393 PF
