Historically important Ronald Reagan autograph letter signed, dated 9 April 1960, on personal ''Ronald Reagan'' letterhead. Here, Reagan foreshadows his departure from the Democratic Party which would officially take place in 1962. Letter reads in full: ''Dear Mrs. Cox, While June 20 is rather far in the future in this business of ours -- (as you well know) there appears to be nothing to prevent our accepting your kind invitation. We do so with pleasure. With regard to my part in the program -- is a thirty five minute talk about standard? Anyway let me know what is expected and I'll do my best to comply. I've given a great deal of thought to the registration idea and frankly I'm afraid it might kick back. I made so much of being a Democrat myself during the [Nixon] campaign and since then have participated in so many Republican affairs that it might be construed as just taking advantage of it now. Some have a feeling that no one considers me a Dem any longer (and that is fine with me). We'll see you June 20 / Best Regards / Ronald Reagan''. Single page letter, written in black ink, measures 7.25'' x 10.5'', with expected folds from mailing and some foxing. Overall near fine condition.
