TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, August 26, 1965. Letter to a professor at Olivet College in Michigan. In part (spelling and grammar retained): “Of course, I know about Olovet. I was there for one of the summer shebangs, when my friend Joe Brewer was President—the same summer as Jihn Bishop, Sherwood Anderson, Allen Tate, Caroline Gordon, Gelnway Wescott and Katherine Anne Porter. That was July 1940…I might do a formal lecture on the state of poetry now at the end of the Pound-Eliot, Yeats era, or I might do a lecture on poetry, remarks in general, some remarks on my own practice and experience, and some readings from my own poems. I am inclined to stick to poetry…I don’t want to make a lublic lecture on the ‘Negro question.’” He adds a handwritten postscript at the top, in part: “I appreciate your remarks about my work.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
