Yesterday and Today stereo 'third-state' butcher album (Capitol, 1966), signed on the front cover in black felt tip, "Love, Ringo Starr." This 'third-state' album features the 'butcher' cover, the previously affixed 'trunk' cover pasteover having been removed from the album jacket to reveal the original cover underneath. Also includes a desirable unpeeled stereo 'second state' version of the album, with the pasteover still in place. Impressively matted and framed side-by-side to an overall size of 34 x 20. In very good to fine condition, with a few areas of surface loss due to peeling. The records are included separately from the display. Accompanied by a copy of the letter Capitol sent to reviewers concerning the issue of the revised album cover. Within days of releasing this miscellany of previous hits, Capitol recalled all copies in response to retailers' negative reactions to the original macabre cover image. The recalled copies were 'retrofitted' with a new pictorial flat, pasted over the first featuring an innocuous image of the boys posed around a steamer trunk. This is the just the second instance of an autographed original butcher cover that we have encountered—a unique piece of controversial Beatles history.
