A beautiful mineral specimen featuring a tight cluster of well-formed, bright pinkish-red, bladed rhodonite crystals. The specimen is in excellent condition. Rhodonite is a manganese inosilicate, crystallizing in the triclinic system. The Chiurucu Rhodonite prospect has been closed for several years now, due to the challenges of mining for mineral specimens in this remote area and because of the danger to the mining crew from "bandits" and political rebels. The mine geologist at the Chiurucu prospect was killed by bandits shortly before its closing. Dimensions (cm): 2.6 H x 8 W x 5 D. Location: Chiurucu Prospect, Dos de Mayo Province, Huanuco Department, Peru City: State: Peru Date: HWAC# 53067
