The most important rhodocrosite specimen discovery of the past decade came from the Wutong Mine, Guangxi Zhuang A.R., China. A collaborative mining effort between local mine owners and the Collector's Edge Minerals, Inc. of Golden, Colorado yielded numerous spectacular specimens of bright red rhodochrosite. Top specimens from the several major crystal pocket discoveries made at the Wutong Mine now grace the top private collections and public natural history museums around the world. This specimen of pinkish-red rhodochrosite was found in 2009 shortly after the completion of a major extension of the decline at the Wutong mine. This two crystal specimen features rhombohedral crystals with slightly rounded corners formed by stair-step faces. The Wutong mine was closed in 2011 and the mine workings are now flooded.
