The Wutong deposit was discovered in 1958 and was a minor producer of lead (4676 tons), zinc (3555 tons) and silver (6.65 tons). The locality gained worldwide fame with the discovery of large, spectacular crystal specimens of pinkish-red rhodochrosite from the early 2000's to 2010. The mine was closed in 2011, the pumps were turned off and today the underground mine workings are flooded. This beautiful specimen features well-crystallized, purple, cube-octahedral crystals of fluorite, very infrequently seen in the mine, with a bright pinkish-red flattened rhombohedral crystal of rhodochrosite. The specimen is in good condition and presents a wonderful contrast of colors. Dimensions (cm): 4 H x 15 W x 9.5 D.
