This lever activated falling block single shot rifle was designed by Lewis Hepburn and was manufactured from 1883 to 1907 with approximately 10,000 in total production. Brass blade front and adjustable rear sporting sights. The top barrel flat is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y.", the lower left side of the receiver is marked "HEPBURNS PAT. / OCT 7TH 1879" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The barrel under the forearm is marked with the matching serial number and "38" ahead of the forearm. Blue barrel, breechblock, hammer and trigger, and casehardened action, lever, buttplate and trigger guard. Mounted with a smooth forearm with an iron forend insert, and checkered round knob pistol grip stock with iron carbine style buttplate.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 75% original thin blue finish with areas of smooth plum patina. Almost all of the bright fire blue finish remains on the hammer. The action retains 60% original case colors mostly in protected areas with a smooth brown and mottled gray patina on the balance. The buttplate has a smooth mottled gray patina with flashes of original case colors. The wood is also very fine with some scattered minor dents and scratches, and very crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
