This is an example of a "US Air Force" M4 bolt action survival rifle. These rifles were developed during World War II and were intended as a survival rifle for downed fighter pilots and bomber crews. They were not really intended as defensive weapon but more for hunting and survival. They saw service well into the late 1950s and early 1960s with B-52 bomber crews. They were manufactured by the H&R company in the Drummondville, in the Providence of Quebec, Canada and had a short take down barrel with sliding wire stock, and the rifle measured 22 inches overall with the stock closed. They had a post front sight with raised guards, and a Lyman 55H rear sight and the side of the receiver is marked "RIFLE, SURVIVAL CAL .22 M4". This beautiful example has all matching numbers on the various parts.
