Rare James Reid Model Number 4 Deringer
James Reid was a New York gun maker better know for his multipurpose "knuckleduster" pistol than his revolvers. This particular specimen, the Number 4 derringer A.K.A. Reid's extractor model is a highly desirable model, manufactured in 1882 with a total production around 125. Half-moon front sight with top strap notch rear sight. The barrel is properly marked "REID'S EX'TR". Silver plated brass frame with distinct combination type loading gate and extractor fitted on the right side of the frame. Five shot fluted cylinder and elongated grip strap. Finished with smooth rosewood grips.

Excellent. 90% strong original nickel plating remains on the barrel showing a minor patch of bubbling and one small isolated patch of pin prick type pitting, the markings are crisp and clear. The cylinder retains 95% original finish with only very minor high point wear. The frame retains 95% original plating showing a pleasant mellow aged brass patina partially exposed along a few high edges and one point on the backstrap. The grips are excellent exhibiting only collector type pressure marks and light varnish wear. Overall an excellent example of a rare James Reid No. 4 that would compliment any American Deringer collection.
