The octagon rifled barrel gauges at approximately .32 caliber and has fixed sights. The top barrel flat at the breech has a brass inlay marked "LS M[illegible] 1844". The lock plate has a floral scroll engraving (faint) behind the hammer. The side plate, trigger guard, crescent buttplate, patch box and forend cap are brass. The full length stock has several silver over lays, a large engraved brass over lay on the underside of the forearm ahead of the trigger guard, and an engraved patch box. The engraving on the patch box, silver cheekpiece over lay, and brass over lay incorporate an eagle/shield motif. The left side of the buttstock has a scroll craving with a checkered pattern below the cheekpiece. The side plate is marked "LS 1844 2 JLS". Complete with a wooden ramrod.

Condition: Very good. The rifle has a smooth dark brown patina with some minor flash pitting that extends to the lock plate. The brass has a polished appearance. The stock is fine with a crack at the toe, a few cracks mostly on the forearm (a long crack on the forearm underside), and a few chips missing around the lock plate, along with some minor handling marks. The adjusting screw is absent and the hammer does not release properly from the full cock position when the trigger is pulled.
