The letter is dated Whitehall March 16th 1862. The letter is written on tablet lined paper and is written over twice in one area due to a paper shortage. It is accompanied by a handwritten translation. It mentions the battle of the Ironclads at Hampton roads as well as the second battle of Manassas at which the writers brother was present. It recounts life amidst a civil war and tending to the needs of men in the family who were soldiers. Letter is in very good condition for it's age and is encased in two sheets of plastic transparency paper.
