Numismatists typically employ the term "provincial" to any Roman coin minted for use in the provinces. The reverse is often inscribed with Greek, rather than Latin characters. The reverse of this coin depicts a series of standards (essentially flags) and the inscription NIKAIE?N - Greek for Nicaea. It was in Nicaea that Constantine I and the Ecumenical Council agreed upon certain articles of faith, embodied in what is known as the "Nicaean Creed". JC-30101-150 JC-30250
