Offered for sale is a Plant's Manufacturing Company front loading pocket revolver. This revolver was manufactured by Merwin and Bray Firearms Co., N.Y. during the mid 1860's. The revolver features the cup fire design. To avoid Smith & Wesson's legal ownership of the Rollin White patented system for breech loading, bored-through cylinders for revolvers, gun manufacturers and designers patented a gun and cartridge that would load from the front of the cylinder to avoid paying royalties to S&W. This has come to be known as the cupfire system. The revolver fires a .30-caliber cup primed, five shot, 3.5" ribbed barrel. The brass frame shows nearly no silver, while the barrel and cylinder have about 90% bluing. The revolver appears to be in working order. The grips are rosewood. This pistol is number 5346 out of about 10,000 or so placed in production. These guns are know to have seen combat during the civil war. Overall this revolver is in good condition for its age. Serial Number: pre-1898 Antique firearm no FFL or NCIS background check required.
