This is a unique Plains Native American Indian pipe tomahawk with bell shaped cutout from circa 1890-1900's. The pipe features a forged iron head showing various punched spots and an interesting large cutout, possibly and unfinished batwing cutout. The head is secured to a hard wood carved haft showing solid brass trade tacked design with file burned accents. The haft has a pierced spot along the top a quarter of the way down from the head which most likely would have held a drop of feathers or beads and another pierced area along the grip area which most likely would have held a wrist throng or drop. The piece head shows rich patina with a cleaned edge, but overall a well preserved piece. Measures overall 28.25"L x 8.75"W with the blade being 4"L. The cutout area is 1 7/8"x1.5".
