Made from 1859 to 1874. The top barrel flute is marked "ADDRESS SHARPS & HANKINS, PHILADELPHIA, PENN" and the right side of the frame is marked "SHARPS PATENT / JAN. 25, 1859". The serial number "188" is stamped on the underside of the barrel (first 8 stamped over a 2) and on the underside of the grip plate on the butt. The frame is equipped with a round side plate and barrel release on the left side and is floral scroll engraved with a wedge of the same pattern on the sides of the breech and muzzle ends of the barrels. Brass blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with pearl grips with relief carved eagle and shield on the left panel. Writer can only recall of a few period engraved Sharps & Hankins Derringers, let alone one with carved pearl grips!
BBL: 3 1/2 inch fluted
Gauge: 32 Short
Serial Number: 188
Condition: Very fine with nearly all of the period non-factory blue remaining. There is some flaking on the front strap and overall a few minor dings and scratches. The grips are fine with the exception of a few minor cracks below the eagle, otherwise there are only light handling marks. The left panel around the eagle could use some cleaning. The right side frame marking is fading a bit, otherwise the marking and engraving are clear. Mechanically excellent.
