The Expert was manufactured from 1919 to 1923. This particular rifle was manufactured in 1919 and is pictured and identified by serial number on page 282 in Ned Schwing's book "Winchester Slide-Action Rifles", Volume I. This rifle features the extremely rare all nickel finish, except for the sights, hammer, trigger and screws, which are blue. The expert Grade rifles fell into two serial number ranges, the first series 525,000 to 598,000 and the second 635,000 to 650,000. The left side of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/patent dates followed by "-MOD. 06-" and the left side at the breech is marked "22 SHORT - LONG/OR LONG RIFLE". The Winchester oval proof is marked on the top of the barrel and receiver at the breech, matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, (with B suffix), and on the lower tang, and the upper tang is marked with the three line trade mark, maker and patent information with dashes flanking each line. Dovetailed blade front and early patent date marked rear sights, and mounted with a smooth forearm and pistol grip stock with a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate.

Serial Number: 549191B
Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 98% of the original nickel finish with some minor flaking on the side plate over the slide bar and some minor dings on the receiver. The finish is beginning to frost in most areas. The wood is also excellent with a moderate pressure dent on the left side of the forearm, a couple of small deep scratches on the lower right side, and overall some minor dings and scratches. The toe of the buttplate is chipped. The markings are clear and crisp. The action is excellent. An excellent example of an extremely rare all nickel finished Winchester Model 06 rifle.
