This is a black painted carbide lantern from the Osnabruck Metalwork company of Germany. The name appears in raised letters on top. It is the type used by miners. The curved top is open at the ends, and allowed the heat to escape, as did the holes at the sides. The front has clear glass. The back and sides have metal doors that latch with slider pins. This piece measures approximately 4 x 3 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches. All knobs and caps open and turn freely. The inner brass portions is stamped 1951. The wooden handle shows age, but is not cracked. * This lamp has not been tested, but it is in very good condition, and will make a great display.
