Original 1860 iron frame Henry lever action rifle, .44 RF cal., #276. This Henry remains in original good to very good condition showing 30%-50% original blue drifting to an even brown patina finish overall; there is scattered light to moderate erosion and surface pitting but still fairly sharp edges, with good barrel address and original Henry rear sight is retained; buttstock is good showing even wear from carry and use, small losses around the tang, a chip at the toe, normal wear and use, small piece of wood replaced at top of stock near junction of frame and light cleaning; butt plate shows a matching patina to the rifle as does the hammer and loading lever; there are faint traces of case hardening showing in the patina on the hammer; action is good, bore is slightly rough, original small parts and screws are retained, there is some marring to the rear tang screw, and the interior screws have not been examined. Between 200-300 iron frame Henrys are estimated to have been produced, and approx. 50-100 original specimens are known to collectors, making them among the most sought after lever action arms, and this is a good example. Two local old time collectors/experts have examined this Henry and like this cataloger, have found it to be authentic and original with a signed documenting letter. Est.: $60,000-$80,000.
