This is an exceptional authentic original Oglala Sioux Native American Indian Quilled Vest from circa 1890. The vest shows an early trade cloth construction back with Buffalo Indian tanned hide front showing excellent porcupine quill work with red, blue, orange mineral ocher dye in a fantastic pattern. The piece has been wonderfully preserved showing excellent quality and condition. The front of the vest is framed in red ocher dyed porcupine quillwork with various pictorial geometric patterns throughout and shows two hide ties in the center. Provenance: From a large Old West & Native American private collection in Northwestern Montana and was recovered from the Rosebud Reservation circa 1890 in South Dakota. This has been finely mounted in a shadow box frame for display under glass for preservation and on a suede leather like backing (the vest can be removed from the shadow box for shipping or other displaying options). Brass tag is marked, “Oglala Sioux - Circa 1890 - Rosebud Reservation, South Dakota.” One of the finest quill work vest from the 19th century we have offered for sale. The shadow box frame measures 23”W x 23.5”L x 2.75”D. The vest as displayed measures 18.75"W x 19"H. Condition: Little to no quillwork loss, supple hide, and overall fine museum quality condition for its age.
