The lot features a stone head war club from a Northern Plains Native American Indian tribe and dating to circa 1900-1940. This Indian Reservation period club shows a hand carved hard stone head having two pionts held onto the haft with a wrap of parfleche rawhide giving the club a "flap" skull cracker like function. The haft is wrapped in cotton trade thread over an Indian tanned hide and wood. The piece does not appear to have been made for ceremonial use as it is not decorated and is made with a hard stone, but most likely was made for personal protection on the Plains and hard life in the early Reservation period directly post Indian Wars. The club measures 13" long, and 4 1/4" wide at the head of the club.
