Northern India —Uninscribed Gold signet Ring with depiction of a recumbent bull, (c. 300 - 400 AD), 41.44g, the symbol undoubtedly refers to Shaivism, the recumbent bull representing Nandi the vehicle of Shiva. The object might have been associated with Shaivite dynasties, like the Bharasivas (Nagas) of Padmavati or the Maghas of Kaushambi. A high quality positive impression of the seal taken on fibre shows the high relief of the bull, a testimony of the great workmanship of the period. The thick gold foil shows signs of wear, none the less a Very Fine object with nice intricate workmanship, Extremely Rare.
