The lot features a fantastic spontoon blade war tomahawk attributed to the Northern Cheyenne of Wyoming. The tomahawk head has an estimated age of circa mid-19th Century. The early Indian Wars period tomahawk is from the former collection of Ted and Lilly Jarvis and features a hand blacksmith forged iron Revolutionary War spontoon style pike head with tapered blade and upward curled basal processes. The tomahawk blade has a slightly raised median ridge running down the center on both sides. The tomahawk features a hardwood haft that is elaborately hot file branded and has a deep, rich shiny patina, indicative of its early age and use. There is an old buckskin fringe drop adorning the bottom end, secured in place with two rows of old brass tacks, likely a later addition. The entire tomahawk has a rich, dark patina and has a very wild, foreboding look. This is truly one of the finer spontoon tomahawks ever offered for public sale. Measures overall 23.5” L.
